“Write down in an early sequence.” Of the four Gospels, only Luke opens with an introduction explaining why and how he writes.
His “orderly sequence” will induce innumerable master strokes like how Jesus’ ministry begins in the synagogue at Nazareth.
Where Mark describes this scene midway through the narrative (Mark 6 and Matthew 13), Luke puts it right after the nativity (his own sources) and temptation.
Then, Jesus reads from the Prophet Isaiah, except Luke has crafted a combination passage so seamlessly that the three separate
verses sound like one and he omits the next phrase in 61.2 “vengeance of the Lord.”
Jesus’ mission is for good news and hope, especially and particularly to the poor and those in bondage.
